It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the peaceful passing of Giovanni "Gianni" Antonio Padovan, aged 88 at his home on Friday June 2, 2023.
Gianni will be lovingly remembered by his wife, of 65 years, Luigia; his children, Marilena (Joseph), Angelina, Walter (Cathy) and Robert; grandchildren, Eric (Lore), Natalie, Sara and Lily. Sadly missed by his sister Ida, many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends in Canada, Italy and Switzerland. Predeceased by his parents Pietro & Enrica and siblings Anna, Benito, Giuseppe and Flaviano.
Gianni was born in the small village of Campomolino, Treviso, Italy. As a teenager he loved to cycle, entering many races and dabbled in boxing, yet true to his nature never threw a punch in anger. He learned carpentry skills and chose to emigrate to Canada in 1954 just shy of his 20th birthday. He worked hard as a skilled young man, proud to begin his own construction company, and sponsored his siblings as they made the journey for a new life in Canada. In 1958 he returned to Italy and married his sweetheart Luigia, together they began their family of four children in Toronto.
Overly generous. Industrious spirit. Lover of food, wine and companionship. To his last day he had the gift to effortlessly make one laugh and smile.
Nonno Boss will be forever missed.
