Giovanna Guidolin
May 5, 1927 - February 14, 2023
Giovannina Anantonia Guidolin (nee Valentini), beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at Toronto Grace Health Centre on February 14th, 2023 at the age of 95.
She is re-united with her beloved husband Danilo. She is survived by her most loved children: Michael (Debbie), Daniel, and Mary Ann (Barry). Her memory will live on through her cherished Grandchildren Laura, Brendan, Justin and Michael John, who would call her the best Nonna.
Beloved Daughter to Leone and Emilia Valentini, and Sister to Francesco, Marino, Amedeo and Maria, and pre deceased by them all.
She bravely boarded a passenger ship to Canada in 1952 suffering with sea sickness and without knowing the language, customs or any relatives in her new homeland after having survived the devastation of WW II during her teen years where the bullets and bombs were flying all around them. They even had to flee their beautiful native town of Silvi, Abruzzo, because the Germans used that town on a hill overlooking the blue Adriatic as a strategic outlook and set up guns to repel a possible Allied invasion as they had set up pill boxes in Normandy, France. She came to Canada with her new husband to start a new life, family and home, became a Canadian citizen and raised her family with devotion, hard work and care. She was a Mom's Mom in the truest and purest sense.
Giovanna had the biggest heart and loved her family immensely. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. Her smile and love will be dearly missed. She will be remembered for her extreme kindness, her love of cooking, family and friends.
Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home 'Weston Chapel', 2035 Weston Road, Toronto on Friday, February 24th from 4-8pm.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 25th at 10am at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 402 Westmount Avenue, Toronto. Entombment to follow at
Prospect Cemetery.
