Gilda Medeiros

With heavy hearts, the family of Gilda Teodoro de Melo Medeiros announces her peaceful passing on April 11, 2025, at the age of 93, surrounded by her loving family.   

Born on March 26, 1932, in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel, Açores, Gilda was the beloved daughter of Maria do Rosário Teodoro and Jacinto Tavares de Melo. She married the love of her life, José Medeiros, in 1955, and together they built a wonderful life with one another. They immigrated to Canada on May 5, 1967, seeking new opportunities and a better future for their family. Gilda and José shared 60 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in December 2015.    A devoted mother, Gilda leaves behind her cherished children: José (Margaret), Laudalino (Joselin), Zita (Joe), and John (Rena). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Jason, Michael, Devin, Chris, Ashley, Steven, Jesse, and  Kristina. Also, great-grandmother of six great-grandchildren.   Gilda will be remembered for her unwavering strength, devotion to her family and her profound faith. All who knew her will remember her for her lifelong dedication to prayer. She will also be remembered for her amazing desserts—especially her malasadas, biscoitos and massa. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.     

She will be dearly missed and forever held in our hearts.
