Gianna Tosello (nee Borgatti)
February 16, 1940- April 19, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Gianna Paola Tosello. Gianna passed away peacefully on April 19, 2024, at the age of 84 surrounded by her loving family.
Gianna was the dedicated wife of 57 years to the late Cesare, cherished mother to Dolores (Loreto) and Daniel (Yelena). Proud Nonna to Jennifer (Daniel), Lauren (Aldo), Daniel (Sabrina), Matthew and Marc. Loving Bisnonna to Alexander, Evelyn, Danielle, Alyssa, and Leo.
Gianna was born in her much-loved city of Bologna, Italy. The first of 3 children to the late Adamo and Iole Borgatti. Sister to the late Frank Borgatti (Judith) and Bruna Alonzi (Rudy). Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Gianna’s humble childhood began in the small village of Canvella. While her father served in the war, Gianna learned at a young age to take on the responsibilities of hard work and looking after her younger siblings.
In 1951, her father Adamo immigrated to Canada, soon to be followed by the rest of the family in 1952. As the family faced the challenges of settling in Canada, they had the support of extended family and friends. Gianna quickly assimilated in her new school, grasping the English language with ease. This eventually established her career in banking for over 40 years.
At a young age, she met her husband Cesare, and they soon began a life together. Their first home on Alberta Ave. welcomed their daughter Dolores. In 1962, they moved to a new home on Maniza Rd., where their son Daniel was born. They eventually settled in Woodbridge in 1976 and built their dream home on Pine Grove Rd.
As a busy working mom, Gianna always found the time to prepare delicious meals which included her famous homemade tortellini, ravioli, and tagliatelle. She had a passion for baking, gardening, fashion, music, and dancing. Gianna cherished returning to her beloved Bologna to reconnect with family and friends, and she enjoyed yearly family vacations in Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta with her parents, children, and grandchildren.
She was an active member at Al Palladini where she participated in many aquafit and Zumba classes, along with long walks in her neighbourhood.
Today as we remember Gianna, let us celebrate not only the 84 years she lived but the enduring spirit with which she lived them. May her memory be a source of inspiration, reminding us that a life centered on love and adventure is a life truly well lived.
Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home 4671 Hwy 7, Woodbridge on Monday April 22, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church 8500 Islington Ave., Woodbridge. A private family entombment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
