Gertrude Kathy Cosgrove (Huber) - 76
Gerta was born on December 16, 1933 and passed away suddenly, due to complications related to a fall, on November 13, 2009.
She was a resident of Tall Pines Senior Citizens Residence in Brampton, Ontario, but spent time in Waterdown, Ontario as well. She was born in Montreal, Quebec and moved to Mississauga, Ontario with her husband, John Cosgrove, to raise their three children.
Gerta was predeased by her mother, Helma and father Mathias, as well as her brother William Huber. She is survived by her sister Ingrid Caron, Morin Heights, Quebec, her daughter Laurie Murley (Doug), Windsor, Nova Scotia, her son, Kevin, Etobicoke, Ontario and her youngest daughter Karen, Mississauga, Ontario. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Matthew and Erin Murley, Windsor, Nova Scotia and Teryn Fischer, Barrie, Ontario.
Gerta enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading and writing short stories, and singing her favourite hymns. She never forgot a birthday or an anniversary and always called her children and grandchildren to sing them a song on their birthdays. Gerta had a deep faith in God and a firm belief in the afterlife. Although she struggled with many challenges, she was always an extremely social individual who brought excitement to any gathering. She had a wonderful sense of humour and the ability to look at the bright side of life. Gerta made friends easily and gave her heart freely to new acquaintances. An intelligent and beautiful woman; she had the heart of a poet and that brought her both joy - and sadness.
Her children will remember her ability to weave a tall tale that wrapped you in its authenticity and when we walk through the woods we will still feel the magic of her forest tales. The ocean’s spray on our faces will cleanse us of our sorrow and as each sunset paints fingers of lavender and violet in every shadow we will take comfort in knowing that a new day will dawn, both for her and those she left behind.
