Gerhard “George” Nickels
January 6, 2016.
With sadness we announce the passing of the beloved husband of Charlene for the past 35 years, and loving father of Warren on January 6th at the Credit Valley Hospital Oncology Unit, where he received such tender and compassionate care. Preceded by his parents Leonhard and Agusta and sister Anna. He leaves behind his sister Alice Funkenhauser of Windsor: Mother-in-Law Odella Mahar; Sister-in-law Heather Cairns(Joseph), Brothers-in-law Farley Mahar(Susan) and Garth Mahar(Louise) of P.E.I. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. After retiring from Ford Motor Company in Oakville, he filled his days with many a project. Not too long after, he realized retiring completely was not for him and he worked seasonal at the Markland Woods Golf Course. He was never one to be idle and he could turn his hand to just about anything. His workshop took over the garage. Through the years he was an avid skier, golfer, tennis player, hiker, and fitness buff. He was a man always on the move and had energy to burn. He loved the out doors and he and his fishing and hunting buddies enjoyed their many wilderness forays. He dearly loved his cottage days in PEI surrounded by family and his never ending projects! He had a heart as big as the outdoors and the void left by his passing will be very hard to fill. He was so proud of his family and heritage and he will be in our hearts forever.
Friends and family may call at the Ward Funeral Home “Brampton Chapel” 52 Main Street South, Brampton on Wednesday January 13, 2016 after 12 noon until a Celebration of Life in the chapel at 2pm. If desired a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Credit Valley Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
