Gerald Droppo, passed away at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on Monday, March 23, in his 90th year.
Predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Judith Droppo. Loving and devoted father to Nora Scrutton (Stephen) and Ian Droppo. Cherished grandfather to Tim and Emily Droppo. Loved brother of his twin sister Geraldine Guy (late Ralph) of Prescott, Ontario and Calvin “Bill” Droppo, Cornwall, Ontario. Gerald was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Olive Droppo (Merkley) and by his siblings: Garnet (late Margaret), Evelyn Blackwell (late Brock), Raymond (late Lila) and Dwight (Louise). Special Uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his many family and friends.
Born on a farm in Winchester Township, Ontario on April 30, 1925, Gerald graduated from the Ottawa Normal School (Teachers College) in 1946. He obtain his B.A. from McMaster University in 1956 and his B.Ed. (1959) and M.Ed. (1961) from the University of Toronto. After starting his career teaching in a one-room school house in Eastern Ontario, Gerald came to Oakville in 1951. He became of member of St. John’s United Church. He was a teacher at Central Public School from 1951 – 1958. Between 1958 until his retirement in 1981, he served as Principal at three schools in Oakville (Elmwood, Westwood and Gladys Speers).
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm at the Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, Ontario. To celebrate Gerald’s life, a funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 28th at 11:00 am, St. John’s United Church, 262 Randall Street, Oakville, Ontario. Burial will be held at Maple Ridge Cemetery, Chesterville, Ontario on Monday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m.
