It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest Gaetano Astolfo. Surrounded by the love of his family, Gaetano passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024 in his 85th year. Gaetano was born to Angelo and Irma Astolfo on February 2, 1938 in Motta di Livenza, Treviso, Italy and was the second oldest son of eleven children.
Gaetano first came to Canada at the age of 18 and found work in construction, which led to his future career as an electrician. Following this journey to Canada, Gaetano went back to Italy to marry his wife Gabriella in their hometown of Motta di Livenza, Treviso, Italy in 1963 and soon the two moved to Toronto to start their lives together.
Together, Gaetano and Gabriella had two children with whom they adored. He was the proud father to their son Diego and daughter Lisa (Chris). He was also the proud and loving nonno to his beloved grandson Hunter, with whom he shared a special bond. In his later years, Gaetano enjoyed playing with Hunter as much as he could, and would always play any game of his choosing.
Gaetano loved his travels to the mountains of Italy and Scotland, and had fond memories of his trips there with Lisa. He also enjoyed the cruise he took with his family for his and Gabriella’s 50th wedding anniversary to Alaska. Aside from travel, he had a great love for classical music and enjoyed going to baroque concerts. Some of his favourite pastimes included spending time with his family and tending his vegetable garden. He loved to make wine with his brother & best friend, Jack, and passing this tradition on to his son-in-law. He loved spending his time outside whether it be taking his children tobogganing, skating, fishing, biking or hiking when they were kids.
He will be remembered for his thoughtful and humble personality. He was very kind, generous, compassionate, and was very devout in his faith.
He will forever remain in the hearts of all who loved him.
