JACKSON, George Ronald - Died peacefully in his 79th year on September 26, 2009 at Baycrest Hospital, Toronto. Beloved husband of Elizabeth, for 54 wonderful years. Loving father of Mary (Claus), Anne, Jean (Jordan), and Carol (Paul). Dear Grampa of Allison, Claire, Adrienne, Julia, Peter, Catherine, Eric, Lauren, and James. Son of the late Kenneth and Marjorie Jackson. Dear brother of Margaret (Doug), Basil (Kate), Peter (Susan), and the late Mary. Ron graduated with a BASc. (Honours) degree from the University of Toronto in 1954. He joined de Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited where he dedicated his expertise for over 40 years, retiring as Vice President Product Development. He was instrumental in the development of a number of successful designs particularly the Twin Otter and the Dash 8 commuter aircraft Series 100 to Q400. In recognition of his creativity, leadership and integrity, he was awarded The McCurdy Award in 1995, an annual award given by the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute for outstanding achievement in engineering. Ron co-founded the Corduroy Enduro in 1953, a cross-country motorcycling event set in the Haliburton Highlands that continues to this day. Together, Ron and Betty created a special family life filled with learning and adventure. He shared his love of Canada and the outdoors, history, photography, and travel. Loved and missed, Ron will be remembered for his knowledge and wisdom, his subtle wit, and his quiet, respectful manner. Visitation at Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Rd.
