Strickland, Frank Charles - Frank passed away at home after a long battle with kidney disease on Sunday, June 17th, 2018 at the age of 94. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Olive Pauline. Loving and devoted father of Stephanie (David Sebben) and Joanne (Kevin Doiron). Cherished “Papa” of Alexandra and David Sebben and Sarah Doiron. Predeceased by his brothers Len and Jimmy and sisters Kitty and Dorothy and nephew Mark. Sadly missed by his dear sisters-in-law, Carole Stephens (Derek) and Marcia Bangma (Art) and nephews and nieces: Doug (Barbara), Jamie, David (Jordana), Sarah (Ben), Marcia (John) and in England, Roger (Tessa) and Kay and many great nephews and nieces. He was very fortunate to have wonderful cousins, friends and neighbours.
Frank was born on February 24th, 1924 in Tottenham, England. He lived through the Blitz and worked as a scout for the Air Raid Precautions at the age of 15. He joined the Air Force in November 1942 and trained as a technician, eventually joining the Second Tactical Air Force, which sent him to Germany. Frank and Olive emigrated to Canada after the war and settled in Etobicoke to raise their family. Frank started working with Wilson Lighting and after 33 years retired as CEO of Wilson Display Ltd. One of the great joys of his life was being a Rotarian of the Rotary Club of Toronto since 1966. He looked forward to his Friday meetings at the Royal York Hotel and participating in a great number of charitable activities carried out by the Rotary Club. He participated yearly at the Blue Mountain Camp, mixing paints and helping to paint the facilities for the children. He was very privileged to receive the Paul Harris Fellowship Award.
In retirement his great passions were painting for which he had a remarkable talent, playing bridge with groups of friends and devoting countless hours working in his magnificent backyard garden. He was the ultimate English gentleman, always entertaining and socializing with his friends and family.
He had an intense interest in world politics and was always ready to share his opinion.
We are deeply indebted to Dr. Hamrahi, nurse Nadia, and all of the staff of the Dorothy Ley Hospice care team, and the Local Health Network (Frances) and his personal support workers, Joseph, Kwasi and Stephen.
A private cremation and interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dorothy Ley Hospice or the Rotary Club of Toronto Phil Fund, would be appreciated.
