Frank Berben passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at the age of 98, at Holland Christian Homes – Grace Manor.
Prior to coming to Canada, Frank was an esteemed Road Service Person working for Wegenwach in the Netherlands. Frank came to Canada from the Netherlands in 1954 with his wife Babs. A short while later, Frank and Babs spent a year in the United States (California) where Frank proudly worked as an auto mechanic and even serviced a Volkswagen owned by Ginger from the TV series, Gilligan’s Island. Upon their return to Canada a year later, Frank continued his work as an auto mechanic at Sunoco for several years then joined Litton Systems and became a proficient and versatile technician. He participated on several committees and retired from Litton Systems in 1984, after 21 years of service.
Frank enjoyed many hours creating home décor from copper material and wood burning. He was a member of Etobicoke Musical Productions where he performed in several musicals such as Fiddler on the Roof and Showboat. Frank loved to sing! He even sang at Weddings and Funerals. He was a terrific tenor.
Frank was predeceased by his wife Babs of 47 years, in May 2000. Frank is survived by his daughter Sharon, of Calgary, and numerous Nieces, Nephews, and friends all across the globe.
