September. 24 1927 – January. 3 2017
On January 3, 2017, our dear father died peacefully while sleeping. He was 89 years old.
He was a strong man, a fighter!
His life was not easy but he made the best of it, did not have the best opportunities since at early age he became an orphan but always worked hard and restlessly to be a better man and always provide for his family.
His strong faith in GOD was the fuel to propel him through life with an attitude of never giving up and always have enough courage to face and overcome any difficult situation.
Through his life, he always put himself in the path to improve his income to provide for his family, definitely he was a good provider and successful at this.
He was an intelligent man that learnt different trades and skill. In Ecuador, Fernando was a boxer, shoe maker, shoe designer, knew shorthand, learned English, learned Radio and TV repair and auto mechanics. He used to come up with is own adaptations to fix the family car and save money. For example, he adapted an electric fuel pump with a hidden on/off switch that would prevent the car to be stolen.
If life would have provided him more education opportunities for sure he would have been a good professional.
Our sister Sofia benefited the most of his English knowledge, Dad helped her with her University English assignments. Later on, because of necessity, here in Canada, all of us had to learn English. He was already ahead of us and in many occasions, he was the familiar source to get help with English translations and provide guidance in our new country.
During family gatherings, he would tell jokes and give laughs and joy for many hours and in some cases even up to early hours of the following day. Dad was a funny man!
He was a sentimental man that listened to romantic music such as Los Panchos, Javier Solis, Alci Acosta but also liked to dance Cumbia and Salsa from Sonora Matancera, Los Corraleros del Majagual, Los Melodicos, Billos Caracas Boys and many others…..
Always had good relationship with his co-workers and his bosses love him as a friend to the point that some became our godfathers.
The biggest consolation is to know that Dad is finally resting beside God to whom he loves so much which he demonstrated by his strong faith on Him.
