It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Eveline Maud Dorey (née Taylor) on Friday, September 16 at age 90 due to heart failure. She was born in Brantford, Ontario in 1926, mother to Michael (Valerie), Derek (Lynn), Maureen (James) and Monique (Peter); grandmother to Kimberley (John), Rick (Kyla), Nicole and Danielle; great-grandmother to Benjamin, Luke, Zaida and Emiliana, sister to Maureen (the two had previously lost brothers James and Earl, sisters Margaret and Eileen, and her parents Joseph and Mary Ellen, still remembered with much love); aunt and great-aunt to the Taylor clan. She will be missed by all, including Lenny, her inseparable canine companion. We will all cherish our memories of the funny, feisty and elegant woman who was unflinching in her support of loved ones and unfailing in facing life’s challenges. She weathered the loss of two husbands, Major Campbell Edward Dorey, in 1970, and George Coleman (Master Warrant Officer, Canadian Armed Forces, Ret.), in 2008. She was secretary to North York’s Mayor Mel Lastman for over twenty-one years. For over fifty years, Eveline was an avid, skilled and fiercely competitive curler, playing until she was 85; a lover of horses, she was also a long-time member of and secretary to The Thoroughbred Race Club of Woodbine in Toronto. Visitations will be held at Ward’s Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, Brampton, on Tuesday, September 20, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21, at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 300 Balmoral Drive in Brampton, where she was a parishioner for over 23 years. Memorial donations can be made to The Ontario SPCA.
