Today we are gathered here to celebrate the life of a strong beautiful queen who laid to rest physically on May 5, 2024 at the age of 82. On paper it is Eva Delores Nembhard, however, those who knew her called Dell or “Granny”. Eva had three children, Donna, Donavon and Jason as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Eva was born in Kingston, Jamaica, yet was raised in a parish called St. Thomas. She moved to Canada in her 20s and lived out the remainder of her life. Eva came to Canada as a seamstress, learned how to sow by her mother, Irene, in her teens. Eva found other ways to expand in her skill set. She worked a number of jobs before landing a permanent role at Leisure World Nursing Home in dietary aid, spending over 25 years and retiring at age 67 in that position.
Eva lit up the present with her ability to bring laughter to a room without even trying. She loved dancing when music would play, especially to Bob Marley. Eva enjoyed walking, even if it meant getting the same groceries more than once a week.
In spite of adversity Eva faced in life, she remained a strong, independent woman, who symbolized working hard, showing love in her own unique way and the importance of giving back. Eva left a legacy unshaken and will forever be cherished by those who really took a moment out to embrace her existence.
