Monkman, Margaret Esther
(Long time employee of G.A. Hardie & Co.)
January 22, 1919 – January 7, 2015
Just shy of her 96th birthday, her independence diminished and very ready to go, Esther Monkman (nee Wilkinson) peacefully slipped away at Sarsfield Colonial Home in Ottawa. A former resident of Cooksville and Brampton, ON, she was a terrific mom to her son, Neil, and daughter-in-law, Heather, and a doting grandmother to “the apple of her eye”, her only grandson, Caelan, all of Navan, ON. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Millie Wilkinson, and many nieces and nephews.
Esther was the daughter of Wilbert and Margaret (Neely) Wilkinson of Cheltenham, ON, and their last surviving child, having been predeceased by siblings Dorothy (Wilkinson), Steve, Bill, Aileen (Armstrong), John and Harold. Esther will now return to her roots to be buried with her husband of nearly 58 years, Earl, who died in 2005.
A service celebrating Esther’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9th at Cheltenham United Church, with interment following the service at Boston Mills Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the church in the hour preceding the service, as well as after the burial, when family and friends are invited to gather for a light lunch at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Bell Let’s Talk, the Bright Focus Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
