With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Ester Bernardi on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the age of 88. Ester is now reunited with her dear husband Attilio Bernardi (2012). Beloved mother to Natalie (Domenic), Valentino (Angie) and Luciana (Attilio). Cherished grandmother of Christina (Gregory), Michael (Jane), David (Lacey), Alicia (Sam), Briana (Mike), Erika (Nick), Amanda and Olivia. Great-grandmother to Charlotte, Ezio, Noa and Joseph and sister to Teresina. When Ester was born premature at under 2 kg in 1930, little did her family know that the little bundle of joy would become such a determined and feisty woman. She came to Canada in 1954 to be with her true love and made the voyage on her own to a strange new land. Together, they built a new life and raised 3 children. Ester loved to cook and socialize and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed yearly trips to Acapulco as well as special dinners at Harbor60 – those were some good steaks! She also looked forward to trips to Italy; especially when she renewed her wedding vows on her 50th wedding anniversary in 2005. In addition to travel, she loved watching hockey and could be found cheering on her boys in blue – the Toronto Maple Leafs! Ester`s quick wit and kind nature will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all of her family and friends. Visitation will take place at the Ward Funeral Home (4671 Highway 7, Woodbridge) on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-9 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Peter`s Catholic Church (100 Bainbridge Avenue, Woodbridge) on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 9:30 am. Entombment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or MS Society of Canada would be appreciated.
