Ernest (Ernie) George Chen, 89, of Brampton, ON passed peacefully on January 17, 2019, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family.
Ernie is survived by loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Mavis, sons Trust and Brooks (adopted), Hermine (sister), several nieces, nephews, grand-children and other relatives.
Born in Spanish Town, Jamaica on January 31, 1929, he migrated to England in the 1950s and worked in the Carpet industry for many years. He arrived in Canada in July 1965 where he worked with Imperial Optical as a Lens Grinder until his retirement.
Ernie will always be remembered for his amazing spirit, his story-telling abilities, making people laugh, as well as discovering and exploring new parts of Ontario. His greatest passion was fishing, a hobby he loved and shared with his family and friends for as long as he was able to. Ernie was an extremely talented cabinet maker - a hobby he reveled in for many years - and which friends and family can attest to.
He had a deep appreciation and love for music - mainly jazz - and had accumulated a collection of songs over the past 60 years. He also liked to dance, had phenomenal cooking skills and was always entertaining friends when they visited him at home.
