I gave her a choice and this is what she picked..do not be sad, for what we have here is but the shell, the nut is gone.
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Enid Lawrence (nee Turpin) on Friday, January 16, 2015 at the age of 91. After three long years of declining health, she left peacefully with her daughter Brenda and Hospice Kawartha Lakes volunteer Eileen by her side and Frank Sinatra playing in the background. Predeceased by her husband Bill, sister and best friend Emily, brothers, parents, dear friends, in-laws and outlaws, I’m sure it was one hell of a good old Newfie kitchen party in heaven last night. She will be missed by son-in-law Max who supplied her with smokes and laughs, her most treasured grandson Griffin fellow mall toodler and sous chef, sisters Doss of Oakville, Sheila of Nova Scotia and her husband John, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Originally from St. Lawrence NL, Enid brought her downhome hospitality to the Mainland and in her own special way made everyone who crossed her threshold feel welcome and as if they were one of the crowd. Brenda’s friends became her children too. I cannot give thanks enough to all the wonderful people who touched our lives in the past few years, the people who were an integral part of the patchwork quilt of care that Brenda stitched together as she needed more help. Lori, Peggy, Carol, Logan, Magi, Jan, Anne Marie, Ann, Margo, Carolyne, Wilma,
Krystal, Marie and all PSWs who filled the gaps when the regulars were away. The paramedics of Kawartha Lakes, the doctors and nurses at Ross Memorial Hospital, especially Rob the P.A. “her boyfriend”, the drivers from Community Care, Roseanne and Dagmar who ran the day program in Little Britain were all so kind and wonderful with Enid. Special thanks to Pat Finkle and Lisa Morasse at the local Alzheimer Society office for support, education and hugs. A group hug to the gang at Caressent Care on McLaughlin Rd., Enid’s home for the past eight months. Blessings to Fr. Tom, Fr. Bill and Fr. Stan at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lindsay who gave her spirit a great lift and brought her peace. And finally, can there ever be enough words to express the appreciation of Enid’s family to Dr. Paul, Sue, Susan, Peggy, Anne, Kristen, Vicki and Ashley (thanks for the ice cream!) of the Palliative Unit at Ross Memorial. The team gave Brenda and her family the support they needed (thanks for listening to all my stories) and Enid the special care for the final leg of her journey. Tuesday January 20, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Celebration of Enid’s life will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Sanctuary Park Cemetery.
