Ena Au Yong

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ena Lucille Au Yong, a wife, a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother. Ena Lucille passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 97 years on January 6, 2021.

Born April 28, 1923, Ena was the third youngest and last surviving of 11 children. She leaves behind the love of her life, Egbert Fitzgerald, her four children, Stanton (Jennifer), Richard (Carol), Elizabeth Nancy (Bill), Cherise (Curtis), her 9 adored, loving grandchildren, Ryan, Vanessa (Jason), Amanda (Kyle), Jason (Cynthia), Cory (Angela), Christina, Catrina (Jesse), Catherine(Matt), Michelle and two loving great grandchildren, Ryland and Kelani.

Ena resided at Deerwood Creek Care Community with her husband beside her as her roommate. On November 13, 2020, they celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.

Ena was born in Trinidad W.I. to Madeline and Joseph Richards Choong. Leaving high school behind, she worked locally until she was able to save enough to travel to New York (where she stayed with her sister Enid and her family) to pursue a career in Hairdressing and Cosmetology. Later on, she joined her husband in manufacturing Hair products of Helene Curtis Co.

She moved to Canada in the late 70s with her family and continued to enjoy life by travelling with Eggie (as she called her loving husband). Her greatest joy and pleasure in life was being a wife, caring for her husband and mother to her children. She loved cooking and baking favourite foods for each of her children but that all changed when the grandchildren came along. They benefited from all her passion for cooking, baking and introducing them to all the foods of the Caribbean.

We would like to thank the Nurses and PSWs for the loving and excellent care they showered her with for the past 8+ years, especially during this difficult time.

Memorable donations can be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Respecting the current situation and pandemic restrictions, the funeral service and interment will be private.
We thank you for your understanding and encourage you to provide your condolences to the family through her memorial page.
