It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Nonna, and Bisnonna, Emma. She was the heart and soul of her family, and her love, strength, and wisdom will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
Born in Castel Castagna, Teramo, Abruzzo, Italy, Emma met the love of her life, Romantino, at the age of 14, marrying him at 21. Together, they embarked on a journey from Italy to Canada where they would build a beautiful family. Emma and Romantino were not only dedicated partners in life but also in work, becoming renowned chefs and an inseparable team. Their bond was evident as they moved, traveled, and created a loving home wherever they went, all while instilling a strong sense of purpose, love, and resilience into their family.
In 1953, Emma came to Canada by boat with her son, Julio, to reunite with Romantino. Together, they built a life full of opportunity, creating a future that would enrich the lives of their four children: Julio, Anna, Claudio, and Lilliana. Emma’s legacy continues through her seven grandchildren: Sarah, Rachel, Maria-Amanda, Anthony, Alessandra, Nicole, and Christian. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Sheldon and Wesley, who brought her so much joy.
Emma lived each day with strength, determination, and an unwavering positive outlook. A devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan, she could be found singing and dancing to her favorite songs, attending concerts, or out for dinner with her children, always trying her luck at winning the jackpot. Her infectious laughter, sharp wit, and memorable one-liners gave her the ability to make friends anywhere she went. She was able to own any room with just a look or a few carefully chosen words.
Emma lived fearlessly and was never alone in her journey, surrounded by family—her mom, sister, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Now reunited with the love of her life, Romantino, who called her to join him in heaven, we take comfort knowing they are dancing once again. She is also reunited with all those she loved who have passed before her.
Though our hearts are broken, we know she is at peace, and her memory will live on in our hearts forever.
Memorial donations in Emma's name may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
