Ellen Victoria King
June 1, 1920 – March 30, 2018
Mrs. Ellen Victoria King died peacefully the 30th of March 2018 at her home in Brampton, Ontario of natural cause at the well-lived age of 97.
Ellen was born in Old England, Manchester, Jamaica. She was the youngest of 3 sisters. Ellen married Norman King in 1943. They had 10 children, two deceased, Winston at age 3 and Anthony King, at age 44. Also deceased are stepchildren, Murdena Robinson, Ruby Rose and Gloria King.
Ellen was a loving wife and mother raising 8 children to adulthood losing her loving husband in 1978. Her hobby was sewing but most of all she lived to nurture and support. Her home and her table was always open to family, friends and members of her community, everyone who came to her home was fed. She provided loving care and attention not only to her children and stepchildren but also to her many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her many informally adopted children. She was the heart center of the Bellefield community.
Ellen immigrated to Canada in 1989 where she continued to take care of her grandchildren and many others. She was the family matriarch, the glue that kept the family bonded. In Canada, wherever she resided became the center towards which family, friends, and recently migrated members from her community would gravitate.
Ellen is survived by her children; Leroy Hutchinson, Phyllis Hemmings, Winnifred Pommells, Bernice King, Michael King, Collin King, Marvaree Young, Icha King and step-daughter, Eugenia Gayle. She has 24 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Ellen King will be held on Saturday April 14, 2018 from 9:00 – 10:00am at the Triumphant Church of Jesus Christ at 5 Greensboro Drive, Unit 7, Etobicoke, Ontario, M9W 1C7.
The Memorial Service will begin at 10:00am. Reception to follow.
