Elisabeth Lemke, age 95 of Toronto, Ontario, passed away on Monday, August 25th, 2016. She was born in Germany, Floha, March 26, 1921.
Elisabeth had just a few friends which she loved. Most of her friends came from her travels around the world. At times she would return to her favorite spots. She would plan at least a few trips a year and they were always amazing, she would come back and share her pictures and experiences with her friends. She careful planned each trip. What a passion she had to travel. Still at the age of 90 she wanted to take a final trip for an Alaskan a cruise, where Vicki accompanied her.
Elisabeth was a hard worker and saved for the next trip, most of her co-workers envied her. Her late husband Gunter was her travelling partner until his passing, but that did not stop Elisabeth, she continued to travel with or without friends. Her circles of friends mostly came from her travels and bowling. She also enjoyed bowling and swimming.
Elisabeth enjoyed watching the summer and winter Olympics. She thought that 2014 would be her last; however she was able to watch 2016 summer Olympics. She was not happy with the results as she expected Germany to do much better...
Elisabeth came to Toronto with Gunter in her late twenties. She worked for Crown Life Insurance as a supervisor; she took early retirement as she did not want to move out west with the company. Early retirement meant that she had more time to travel.
Elisabeth loved gardening and walking. She truly took care of herself by taking vitamins daily and was very independent. She loved the outdoors and spending time with her close friends. She loved dropping in Teti Family home, (Italians next door neighbours) who always fed her with Italian food and invited her to all family functions, Christmas, New Years, weddings, births, etc.
Elisabeth was so independent that she pre-planned her own funeral; she did not want to burden anyone. She requested a small funeral with her closest friends.
Thank you to all for those who cared for her over the last eight months, especially all the staff at Langstaff Square in Richmond Hill. Thank you again for making her part of the family at Langstaff Square.
