Elena Racco
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend Elena Racco (nee Ferraro). Elena passed away quietly on November 20, 2022 in the comfort of her own home in Toronto, Canada. She now joins her loving husband Vincenzo. It is with much pride that we remember her life and accomplishments. Elena’s greatest legacy is the family that she leaves behind. She was devoted to her sons, Cosimo and Rocky. She was the extremely proud and loving Nonna to Natasha, Ariella, Camilla, Audrey and Vivienne. Mother-in-law to Janine Racco (nee Coletti). Elena’s siblings were Nicodemo (deceased) (Barbara), Paola Gambino (Pasquale), Domenic (Rosalba), Frank (Marie), Vincenzo (deceased) (Josie) and Rose Wright (George). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her caregiver, Rina, deserves special mention for her friendship and company and for keeping Elena
comfortable each and every day.
Elena was born August 21st, 1933 in Mammola (Reggio Calabria), Italy. At the age of 19, along with her parents, Rocco and Carmela Ferraro, and siblings Elena immigrated from Mammola to Toronto, Canada. There they soon settled in the long standing family home on Brunswick Avenue. Elena found work as a machine operator in the nearby garment district of Toronto. In 1955 she met and married Vincenzo Racco. They started a family right away and remained together for 60 years. In 1970 Elena and Vincenzo founded E. Racco Travel Service in North York. This was only one year after Elena had taken her first trip in an airplane. Initially serving the ItaloCanadian market, the agency under the leadership of her son Rocky grew and evolved to become TTI Travel Trust International with offices in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Montreal.
In her spare time Elena enjoyed gardening and preparing meals for her family and friends. Her lasagna and cannoli were prized by all who had the privilege of tasting them. They provided the setting for gatherings that brought loved ones together from far and wide. Elena will be missed dearly by all of them.
Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home 4671 Hwy 7, Woodbridge (just west of Pine Valley Dr.) on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St, Jane Frances Church 2747 Jane St., Toronto. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Thornhill.
As expressions of sympathy donations to Humber River Hospital would be appreciated.
