Eleanor May Cowan
Oct 28, 1930 – Jan 28, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Eleanor May Cowan at Grace Manor on January 28, 2025 in her 95th year.
Eleanor was the beloved wife of Ivan, together they would have celebrated their 75th anniversary this year. Eleanor was the daughter of Amy and Charley Post. She is survived by her sons Michael (Lynden), Bruce (Ann) and Paul. She is also survived by her grandchildren Michelle, Robert (Diana), Jennifer (Ben), Ashley (Steve) and Zakary and her great-grandchildren Aiden, Audrey, Claire, Ester, and Ila. Predeceased by great-granddaughter Adeline.
Eleanor was one of nine children. She is survived by her brother John Post, sisters-in-law Sarah Post and June Post and brother-in-law Russel Cowen. Predeceased by brothers Edgar, Phillip, William, Robert, James, and Albert, and sister Evelyn. She was predeceased by all her other sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Eleanor was born, raised and lived her entire life in Brampton, seeing it grow from a small town to the huge city it is today. At one time, it seemed she knew almost everyone in town. She was a life-long member of Christ Church Anglican, the Women’s Auxiliary and longtime head coordinator of the church’s catering committee handling afternoon teas, receptions and banquets. For nearly 50 years she was a volunteer at Peel Memorial Hospital with various duties including the information desk and gift shop. She enjoyed travelling and camping, touring to all corners of North America. In her spare time, she would knit mittens, tuques, scarves and all sorts of baby outfits. But most of all, spending time with her family as it grew and grew was the thing she enjoyed the most.
In recent years she faced the progressive challenges of Alzheimer’s. She still enjoyed life, always endeavouring a big smile even when she was unable to communicate the way she used to.
The family would like to thank the Alzheimer Society of Peel’s Day Program and Holland Christian Homes Grace Manor whose care and compassion were certainly appreciated. Accordingly, donations may be made to either of these organizations.
