It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Egbert Fitzgerald Au Yong at Etobicoke General Hospital on July 22, 2021, in his 98th year.
Egbert was loved and cherished by his wife, Ena (predeceased). He leaves behind his children, Stanton (Jennifer), Richard (Carol), Elizabeth Nancy (Bill) and Cherise (Curtis); his 9 adored, loving grandchildren, Ryan, Vanessa (Jason), Amanda (Kyle), Jason (Cynthia), Cory (Angela), Christina, Catrina (Jesse), Catherine(Matt), Michelle and two loving great grandchildren, Ryland and Kelani.
Egbert resided at Deerwood Creek Care Community with his wife, Ena until her passing earlier this year.
Egbert was born in Trinidad W.I. to William Au Yong and Fungyin nee Lue and was the youngest sibling to his now deceased brothers David, Lloyd and Ozzie. He served in the army as a reservist during the war. He was always active with the 1st Trinidad Sea Scouts and the Fui Toong On Association. He last worked at the Trinidad Guardian Newspaper as an accountant then started his import/export business. Egbert and Ena manufactured hair products for Helene Curtis Co. for a number of years until they sold it.
Egbert loved travelling with his family on many weekend trips to Mayaro, Maracas Bay and longer vacation days at Blanchisseuse, and "down the islands". He also spent time in Tobago in their cabanas and his early morning fishing trips with Ena. Egbert moved to Canada in the late 70s with his family and continued to enjoy life travelling across Canada and different countries. His greatest joy and pleasure in life was being a husband, caring for his wife and father to his children. He enjoyed doing magic tricks for his grandchildren as well as making wood working items for his children too.
We would like to thank the Nurses and PSWs for welcoming and supporting our dad when he would come for his daily visits to mom, and the loving and excellent care they showered him with when he joined her at Deerwood in 2017. Thank you for the comfort, the concern and the compassion especially when he lost his loving wife in January.
