Effie Gianakopoulos

It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of Stratigoula "Effie" Gianakopoulos on January 25, 2025 at the age of 88 years surrounded by family. Dearly beloved wife of Ilias Gianakopoulos for 65 years, beloved mother of sons Gus (Phyllis), George and Jim and dear grandchildren Elias and Constance. 

Effie was born in the small village of Karyes, Laconia, Greece, the middle child of Georgios and Demetra Kastanas. She is predeceased by her siblings Helen Theodorakakis, Panagioti Kastanas, Jim Kastanas and Dina Saldov.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was always attentive to the needs of others and showed mercy, compassion and love to everyone no matter family or stranger. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. May her memory be eternal.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday January 28th between 12 pm and 4 pm at Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road, Toronto. No visitation in the evening due to a scheduled power outage.

Funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 10 am, at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church., 1 Brookhaven Dr., Toronto.

Internment will follow at Sanctuary Park Cemetery, 1570 Royal York Road, Toronto.

The memorial luncheon (Makaria) will be held at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
