Edna Thorne

Edna Mildred Thorne (nee. Harnish) of Oakville, Ontario, passed away with family by her side on November 1st, 2015, in her 96th year. Edna was born on April 26th, 1919 in Lequille, Nova Scotia. She graduated from The Royal Victoria Hospital School of Nursing (Montreal, Quebec) in May of 1942. She would go on to serve as a Flying Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1942 until 1948. Edna married Eric Winston Thorne on the 16th of September 1948. A unique soul, Edna was dedicated to serving others in all aspects of her life. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Edna was predeceased by her husband Eric Winston Thorne (1990). She is survived by her son Eric Thorne, her daughter Linda Budd; her grandchildren: Scott Thorne (Tanya), Heather Wright (Peter), Jen Budd, Andrew Thorne (Toni), Laura Carter (Chris), and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by many beloved members of the Thorne family. A Celebration of Life will be held at Ward Funeral Home 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, on Thursday, November 5th at 11a.m. with a reception to follow at the Funeral Home. Internment will take place at St. Jude’s Cemetery on Friday, November 6th at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Edna’s name to the Salvation Army of your choice.
