Edith "Grace" Ellis

In Loving Memory of Edith (Grace) Cavell Ellis

It is with great love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edith (Grace) Cavell Ellis, who passed away peacefully on March 1 2025 at the age of 105.

Born in York Township in 1919, Grace was a remarkable woman whose life was filled with love, strength, and an unshakeable sense of gratitude.

Raised in a family of nine children, Grace's nurturing spirit was evident from a young age. In 1941, she married the love of her life, the late Robert (Bob) Ellis, and together they built a life full of joy, laughter, and deep family bonds.

Grace was a devoted mother to her son Rob (Patti) and daughter Rhonda (John). As a grandmother (affectionately known as "Nanny") and great-grandmother, Grace's legacy lives on through her five grandchildren, Tyler (Jocy), Carling (Doug), Michelle (Adam), Brooke (Kyle), and Corey (Chelsie), as well as her eight great-grandchildren, Addison, Gabrielle, Benner, Hudson, Livi, Maddison, Wren, and Jack.

Her love for her family was boundless, and her pride in them immeasurable. Throughout her life, Grace's passion for family and community shone brightly. She was a constant presence at family gatherings and sporting events, always there to cheer on her loved ones. Outside of these gatherings, Grace found joy in knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, berry picking, and baking – especially her legendary lemon meringue pie and homemade jam.

Her resilience and determination allowed her to live independently until the age of 105, inspiring all who knew her. Grace was known for her humble and gentle nature, finding comfort in the companionship of her family, friends, and her cherished church community. She embraced each day with deep gratitude and was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Grace’s life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and resilience. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, joy, and inspiration that will continue to touch the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and admiration.

Rest in peace, "Mom" "Nanny". Your legacy lives on in the hearts of all who loved you.

In Grace's memory, donations to Rexdale Presbyterian Church would be appreciated by the family.
