Edgar Mitre 

April 26, 1936 – January 22, 2024 

Passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family in his 87^th year on January 22, 2024. Edgar was born in Storojinetz, Romania, on April 26,1936, to parents Emil and Karoline Mitre and was the beloved brother of Helga. 

In 1955 at the age of 19, Edgar made the long journey by train and ship from Braunau, Austria, to Toronto with his mother and sister, where they joined his stepfather in search of a new future. Edgar is now reunited with his wife, Paula, whom he met in Toronto and married in 1957. They spent many wonderful years together and had two daughters. Edgar was the dear father of Sylvia (Michael) and Anita (Peter).

He will also be greatly missed by his niece Lori, nephew Christopher (Cara), and great-niece Alyssa. Edgar is also now reunited with his companion of nearly two decades, Hannelore. 

Edgar was a dedicated family man. As well, he was a true gentleman with an endearing sense of humor and quick wit. His interests were many and varied, spanning the sciences and the arts, and he was a skilled, detail-oriented tradesman. 

One of Edgar's greatest loves was music, specifically the accordion, and he spent many hours perfecting his sound system and entertaining others with his recordings. He also enjoyed photography as well as nature and the outdoors. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memoriam of Edgar to a charity of your choice.

Friends and family will be received at the Ward Funeral Home (4671 Highway 7, Woodbridge) on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral Service to follow in the Ward Funeral Home Chapel (4671 Highway 7, Woodbridge) at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Beechwood Cemetery.
