In Loving Memory of Eddie Tatone
September 29, 1939 – February 17, 2025
With profound sadness, the family of Eddie Tatone announces his passing on Monday, February 17, 2025. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Pasquale and Carmela Tatone.
Born on September 29, 1939, in Santo Stefano Di Sessanio, Abruzzo, Italy, at the onset of World War II, Eddie took great pride in his heritage and often reminisced about his cherished childhood in his hometown. He fondly shared stories of his early years—delivering wine while sneaking a sip, tending to sheep, pigs, and chickens, and the unforgettable moment when a mischievous cat dared to steal his meal. He spoke with heartfelt emotion about his mother and his determination to protect her during his father’s captivity during the war.
In June 1953, Eddie , along with his family, embarked on a new chapter, immigrating to Toronto, Canada. As a young boy, he embraced his new home with resilience and determination, attending school while taking on various jobs to support his mother, father, and sister. From setting up pins at a bowling alley, peeling potatoes in a restaurant, working in a washing machine factory, and serving as a surveyor for the city, to working as a union agent for Toronto’s first lathing union, as well as for the local 97B, Eddie’s relentless work ethic paved the way for his future success. In 1962, he established his own lathing contracting business, earning a reputation as a respected and admired leader in his field. Eddie was among the first contractors to adopt drywall as a sound construction method, and a founding member of the interior systems contractors association ('ISCA).
In 1967, fate led him to the love of his life, Pia, whom he met at the Toronto Dominion Bank—one of his favorite places. Together, they built a beautiful life and a loving family. Eddie was a devoted husband, a proud father to Lino, Connie (Cristobal), and Mark (Alexandra), and a cherished Nonno to Alessia, Isabella, Elianna, Eddie, Tessa, and Estee. He was also a loving brother to Anna (Frank), and a brother in law to Tina, Rina, Angela, Colleen, and Heather and Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Eddie’s legacy is one of strength, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to his family. He embodied resilience, the warmth of Italian tradition, and the joy of a life well lived. His sense of humor and comical charm brought laughter to many, and his infectious smile and boundless generosity left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His love for songs—especially his cherished renditions ofSanta Lucia and La Vita è Bella—will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
Eddie Tatone was more than a husband, father, grandfather, and friend—he was a guiding light, a pillar of love, and an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His contagious love of life touched many, and he will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
If desired, the family would appreciate donations supporting Villanova College, in memory of Eddie Tatone.
