Douglas “Doug” Massie passed away on September 22, 2022 at the age of 51 in his hometown of Toronto, Ontario.
His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his incredible resilience and courage in facing life’s challenges.
Doug is reunited with his late father, George. He is survived by his devoted and loving mother, Linda. Doug is deeply missed by his brother Chris (Megan) and sister Kate (Jay). He was a kind and loving uncle to Fiona, Evan, Jack, and Charlotte. Family meant everything to Doug, and he is missed by his Aunts Margaret, Judy (Dennis) and Kathy (Mike). He is lovingly remembered by his cousins Leonard, Terri, and Greg.
Doug was born and grew up in Toronto and loved to be out and about in the city, knowing the city’s bus routes and subway schedules well. He spent many years supported by Kerry’s Place organization where he lived with his roommate Adam for over 30 years. He will be remembered for his incredible memory, his love of music and his ability to beat anyone in a game of pool. Doug never allowed his communication challenges to interfere with his ability to show care and love for those close to him. Although he has been taken from us too early, his incredible strength has left a mark on all those who had the honour of knowing him.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of Unit 12 South at Mount Sinai hospital for their incredible care of Doug.
Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home “Weston Chapel”, 2035 Weston Road, Weston on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 29th at 11am at Central United Church, I King St, Weston. Cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sinai Health.
