Dorothy Nenniger

Dorothy Louise Nenniger (Jackson)

At home, surrounded by her family, on August 21, 2017, at the age of 91. Cherished wife of 63 years to Emil. Loving mother to John (Gina), James (Kim), Anne (Tobin) and Stephen (Nancy). Best-ever grandma to Kelly, Emily, Alix, Beth, Meghan, Jack, Meghan, Iain, Scott, Maggie, Jason, Tom and Lily. She leaves her sister, Jean Nykyforuk, her sister-in-law June Jackson, and their children and grand-children. She was predeceased by her brother, Tom Jackson, in 2009, and her parents Dorothy Jackson (Stark) 1937 and Tom Jackson (1957).

Dorothy grew up in Saskatoon and began caring for her family at the age of ten when her mother passed away. Her father instilled in her a belief in the value of education, which she in turn passed on to her children and grandchildren. After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan she went on to obtain a graduate degree in business from Radcliffe University. She started on a career in business with Alcan in Montreal before meeting Emil in a snow bank at a ski hill in the Laurentians. Marriage and children followed in a wonderful partnership that was unshakeable until the end.

The shared hobby of producing maple syrup provided many occasions for family time at the farm. Dorothy was the super-taster, the ultimate authority on whether a fresh batch met the required high standard for flavour. As well, over the years Dorothy and Emil attended hundreds if not thousands of kids’ and grandkids’ events, from soccer, hockey and badminton matches to international symphony concerts.

Dorothy’s intelligence and insight only grew with the passing of time; she never lost touch with the wider world and always had a thoughtful opinion. She provided love and guidance to every member of her family and had an ability to make each of us feel special. She listened before she spoke. She preferred to lead by example but if she chose to provide advice it was always exactly what we needed to hear.

We will always miss her but take comfort from knowing that she will live on in our hearts and memories. In passing she leaves us with the challenge of living our lives as well as she lived hers. The world was a better place with her in it.

At her request there will be no service, but details of a drop in celebration of life will be posted on this site.
