Dorothy "Betty" Steel

March 6, 1925 to January 17, 2016
Passed away peacefully in Oakville after a brief struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Betty is predeceased by her parents Harold and Edna Steel (nee Bogart); sister June Long, brother John Steel, and brothers-in-law Herman Austenson and Bill Long. She will be missed by her sister Dr. Marilyn Steel of Saskatoon, SK; and sister-in-law Wendy Steel of Niagara-On-The-Lake, ON. She was a devoted aunt to Marianne Robson and her family of St. Albert, AB; David Long of Oakville, ON; Elizabeth and Charles Steel of Niagara-On-The-Lake, ON; and Edward Steel and his family of Oakville, ON. She also leaves a number of cousins.
Betty graduated from the University of Toronto in Household Economics in 1948 and fulfilled her childhood wish of becoming a dietitian. She worked at the Hamilton General Hospital for many years where she was the Head Dietitian.
Visitation will be held at the Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 7 – 9 p.m. A private family graveside service is to be held.
