Mrs. Doris Youash Ganja passed away on March 7, 2017 at 1:40 PM after seventeen days of fighting for her life following a massive stroke. Doris most recently resided at the Downsview Long Term Care Centre. She was a resident of North York since her arrival to Toronto on April 11, 1974.
Doris was born on February 8, 1929 in Baghdad, Iraq to her parents, the late Keteh (Catrina) Lazar and Youash Daoud. She was a loving and deeply caring wife to Charles Ibrahim Ganja from the day of their marriage on January 31, 1969. In addition to her husband, she leaves behind three brothers, David Youash, Sabah Youash, Sargon Youash and their families. She also leaves behind her late brother's family to go join Natan Youash in heaven.
She started her working life as a typist with Rafidain Bank in Kirkuk, Iraq at a time when it was unheard of that a woman would step out of a house and set foot in a man's world. She was an ambitious woman and saw an opportunity to grow and develop by learning to type English; and so she proceeded to teach herself the English typeset, making herself more valuable to her employer. In Canada she worked at Swingline for 20 years until her retirement in 1994.
Many of Doris’ family and friends knew her to be more than just a sister, aunt or relative as she had enough love in her heart to also be a mother to those in her life needing her love and support. Doris was generous in her love of family and friends and made a point of making gifts of sentimental items she accumulated in life which now serve as cherished reminders of a wonderful person. She and her husband enjoyed many travels through which she sustained family connections across various countries.
Doris will be remembered most as a genuine soul who gave more of herself to those she cared about than she ever asked in return.
