Wood, Doris Mary
With profound sorrow the family of Doris Mary Wood (nee Merison) announce her passing on the morning of May 6, 2014 after a long and painful fight with bone cancer. Predeceased in 2001 by her husband of 50 years, Alfred Wood, a loss from which she never fully recovered. Left to mourn are her daughters and sons-in-law Jacqueline and Donald Rosart, Valerie and Leo Coffey, Gillian and Harold Smith and Christina and Murray Parr, her seven grandsons Christopher Rosart (wife Dannielle), Daniel Rosart, Jonathan Coffey, Brendan Coffey, Dylan Coffey, Graeme Smith and Connor Parr, and her great granddaughter Taja Marie Rosart. Also survived by Joyce and John Healey of England and Patricia and Peter Robinson of Georgetown. Predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Merison, her father and mother-in-law Alfred and Elizabeth Wood, George and Maureen Wood and their son Tony, and Rose and Ernie Hanmer. Remembered by her godchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Doris was born in Shoreditch, London, England on January 27, 1927 and was evacuated to Norfolk where she met Alfred (“Alfie”) in 1939. They married on September 2, 1950 after he was discharged from the army. They emigrated to Canada in 1957 with their two oldest daughters and built a life in Canada adding two more daughters along the way. They loved to entertain their friends and family with their mindreading prowess and when they danced the whole floor stood back and watched. Doris and Alfie travelled the world, but she was always happiest at her cottage in Kincardine.
Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home “Brampton Chapel” ,52 Main Street South (Hwy #10), Brampton on Friday May 9th, from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will held on Saturday May 10th, at Christ Church Anglican, 4 Elizabeth Street North, Brampton at 1:30 p.m. An interment will be held at Kincardine Municipal Cemetery on Sunday, May 11th at 11:00 am
