Doris passed away peacefully, at home, as was her wish, at the age of 93, on November 9, 2022. She was born in Wyandotte, Michigan, on May 17, 1929.
Doris was the eldest of three girls born to Catherine Gibbons and Henry Lovejoy. She was raised in Michigan along side her two sisters Violet and Dolores. The three sisters were inseparable and were each others' confidants throughout their lives.
During her career, Doris worked as a secretary for various law firms and private companies including many years with Dominion Securities.
In her twenties, Doris found herself on a beach in Grand Bend where she met the love of her life, Dan. In October of this year they were married for 70 years.
Doris and Dan had a rich social life with many lifelong friendships mostly stemming from their involvement in Kinsmen and Kinettes in their early married life. Their monthly euchre and poker clubs they formed with these friends kept them involved in each others' lives through the decades.
They loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to Europe, the UK and cruises to the Caribbean.
Doris had many interests and remained very active during her retirement years. She was an avid reader, a great cook, enjoyed a good political discussion and going to the movies. She was queen of the morning power walk/workout or, as her family liked to call it, the Nana walk. She loved her grandchildren dearly and spending time with them was always her priority. Doris also found time to volunteer at the local elementary school and public library in Clearwater Florida where she and Dan spent their winters. They owned a beautiful condo where they welcomed family and friends to visit and escape the Canadian winters. They could often be found on the balcony watching the sunset and enjoying a sherry.
Doris lived a full and active life and will be missed by her family and friends. Special thanks to all the caring and compassionate PSW's and co-ordinators at the LHIN, Spectrum, SRT, Thornbrook and Dr. Mavrogiannis who assisted Doris and helped with her wish to remain living in her home.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
Doris has departed this life and her influence on family and friends will be felt forever.
