DOREL MAY FORRESTER
May 14, 2024
Dorel May Forrester, age 92 of Toronto Ontario, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14 after a long struggle with dementia and diabetes complications. Dorel was born on December 23, 1931, in Camberwell, St. Mary, Jamaica second child of ten children to Kurlin and Theophilus Campbell. In 1952, Dorel’s brother Wesley, introduced her to his friend Orthnel. Impressed by this handsome, wonderful, man, Dorel, much to the disappointment of her Seven Day Adventist faithful family, converted to the Catholic faith after marrying Orthnel. Although their romance was not perceived to be the right faith-based match, Dorel’s and Orhtnel’s relationship over the past 72 years have been a testimony of God’s guiding love in their lives, and the perfect example of devotion, commitment and partnership in a marriage. Together they raised ten children (Verna, Preston, Linclon, Denzil, Curlene, Grace, Floyd, Joy, Wayne and Michelle) and four grand children (Carl, Patrina, Stephon and Kaara). Their house was also a home for many other grand children and family members who needed a place to live in times of need. Dorel also channeled her Christian upbringing into many volunteer roles in the St. Pius X Catholic church community serving as a mother and mentor to many youths and children. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister, and lead community outreach groups, making a difference in the lives of many. Dorel loved God, she loved her children, she loved her family members, and she loved serving others. Her constant desire was to fulfill God’s purpose for her life – So every day, even as dementia consumed her mind and the pains from her illness was more than she could bear – Dorel would pray – “Lord, make me a blessing, a blessing today, in all that I do, in all that I say, make me a blessing, a blessing today!” Dorel was a woman of profound Faith and strength and loved by all who met her. She is also survived by her sisters Gloria, Hermine and Lorna and brother John.
She will be deeply missed. So long for now until we meet in Glory – My beloved Dor, Mom, Mum, Sister Dor, Aunt Dor, Mrs. Forrester and mama Dorel!
