In celebration of Gladys (Doreen) Dunford August 2, 1931 – October 14, 2023.
We are saddened to announce that Doreen passed away peacefully on October 14, 2023 at 92 years of age at the Margaret Bahen Hospice. A devoted Mother, Grandmother and Gee-Gee, her legacy is knit into the fabric of our family. She will be fondly missed by her children Diane, Darlene (Ray) and Donna, her grandchildren Christine (Darren), Jennifer, Kevin, Joanne (Andre), Heather, Danny and Jason and her great grandchildren Emma, Rylee, Parker, Kasey, Emily and Claire.
For more than 60 years, Doreen enjoyed spending time at the cottage on Twelve Mile Bay and exploring the many sites of Georgian Bay. The cottage always held a special spot in her heart as she was one of the first to establish a cottage on the bay as she watched several generations grow up and share her love of cottage life. Our family will cherish the many memories made at the cottage from family dinners to the annual Easter hunt that was never complete without her annual poem read under her favourite pine tree.
Doreen had a creative spirit and filled her days creating beautiful pieces that will be cherished for many years to come. Her selflessness truly defined her, as she dedicated countless hours to volunteer work, supporting numerous organizations with unwavering dedication.
Doreen was a fighter to the very end bravely facing and overcoming many battles with her health including two battles with cancer and participating in a trial for cancer treatment that continues to save countless lives today.
She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A private service will be held to honour Doreen’s life.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests expressions of sympathy or donations to the Margaret Bahen Hospice or Arthritis Research Canada.
Doreen’s legacy of love, craftsmanship and community service will live on in our hearts forever.
