Donald Stonehouse

“Heaven Is Now My Home”

STONEHOUSE, Donald George (August 25, 1940 – February 1, 2014).
Donald George Stonehouse, “Stonie”, born in London, Ontario to George Edgar Stonehouse and Mary McCleary, passed peacefully in his 73rd year, surrounded by family. A wonderful man with an unparalleled passion for family and cottage life, Donald was truly a living embodiment of the word survivor throughout his courageous battle with illness. His strength endured until his final moments at Mount Sinai Hospital, where he slipped away as the eagle’s wings lifted him up to a place of tranquility.
Imparting in his children and grandchildren the value of a strong work ethic, Don spent his long-term career with Loblaw Companies Ltd. Following his retirement, he occupied his time on Gibson Lake in Muskoka at his family cottage, where he fished, hunted, played golf, and never failed to open his dock to the incoming boats of friends.
Beloved husband of Patricia Lewis-Stonehouse. Loving father to Son Ronnie Stonehouse, Daughters Karen Thistlethwaite (son-in-law John), Lisa Azzopardi (Allan), Kimberley Stonehouse (Ben) and Step-Daughter Jacqueline Lewis-Shymanski. Cherished grandfather to Tina and Michael Stonehouse, Jonathon and Steven Azzopardi, and Ashley and Alysha Thistlethwaite. Great Grandfather to Mikhita, Kadyn and Miisha Stonehouse, and Emily Welch.
His kind heart smiled until the very end. Dad, we cannot imagine our lives without you. This is not goodbye; we’ll see you again. Until then, may God hold you in the palm of his hands.
Relatives and friends will be received on Sunday February 9, 2014, at the Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds St., Oakville, Ontario, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
