Don Tanner retired in 2011 to enjoy the cottage, model railroading, photography, bridge, skiing, the TSO, golf and family holidays. Just recently he enjoyed travelling to Australia, New Zealand, Austria and Japan. Don and Su have three children and three grandchildren: Son Chris (Nami Goto) living in Singapore; daughter Alexis (Bart) living in Burlington with ten month old Emma, and son Joel (Jackie) living in Hamilton with four year old Grayson and two year old Mila.
Don was born in Arvida, Quebec, where his father was an Engineer with Alcan. Don lived in Ottawa until he attended Queen’s University for Metallurgical Engineering in 1970. There he met his wife Su (Putherbough). Don also obtained his MBA at Queen’s. After graduation from Engineering, he commenced his career with Cominco in the heart of ski country in Trail, B.C. Don and Su were married in 1975 and enjoyed skiing, sailing, and hiking in Rossland. His professional career included working as a Sales Engineer for his father at CJT Equipment Surplus; Assistant Plant Superintendent at Canadian Electrolytic Zinc in Valleyfield, Plant Manager at Dynacast in Point Claire, General Manager at Stackpole in Etobicoke, Director at PwC, and Manager at the Ontario Ministry of Finance leading the Deposit Return and Hazardous Waste programs.
Don was a devoted gentleman with a kind heart and a deep love for his family. He will always be cherished and remembered.
