Mrs. Delphena Agatha Brown, Miss Tiny, was born in the district of Mulloch, St. Catherine, Jamaica on September 2, 1925. She is the eldest of seven children for Theodora Hawthorne and Robert Harrison, three of whom have predeceased her. She is predeceased by her late husband, Allan.(2007) Delphena became one of our ancestors at 2:10 pm on September 20, 2024, at the Humber River Regional Hospital, in Toronto. She was 99.

She is survived by four sons: Owen, Dennevan, Alous and Luther, their spouses/partners and by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Delphena is loved and missed by family and friends not only in Toronto, but also in Jamaica, England and the USA. We celebrate her long life of boldness, agency, and a commitment to a different future. She has helped us understand that no one or no socio-economic condition can rob us of our giftedness. Delphena has exercised her giftedness against all odds.

In April 1991 at age 66, about two years after emigrating to Canada, Delphena graduated from George Brown College having fulfilled the requirements of the Home Support Level II program. She worked consistently. She was a member of the Seniors Choir at the Jamaica Canadian Association Centre and a leader in the AWANA program, teaching Sunday School in her home congregation – Westmount Gospel Assembly.

Miss Tiny brings “Joy” to her environment through her infectious smile and laughter. Her kindness and willingness to help, and her respect for others reflect her belief that all are created equally by her God, with the expectation that we love, respect and care for each other. For family, friends, acquaintances, and caregivers she modelled these values by just being herself, Miss Tiny.
