It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of a cherished husband, dad, grandfather, brother, uncle, great uncle, friend, and lacrosse legend one day shy of his 78th birthday. He fought a hard battle with glioblastoma and died peacefully at home with his wife of 59 years and high school sweetheart Mary by his side. He was dad to daughter Deanna (Andrew), son Stewart (Alison). Predeceased by daughter Denise. Grandfather to Jonathon, Joshua, Jacob and Tanys Insley, Jaxon, Aryn and Avry McLeod. Brother to Ian (Isabella), Elizabeth (Glenn) Fraser, cousin to Fred (Atkinson). Uncle and great uncle to many. Will be missed by his dog fur babies Maddie and Lola.
Next to his family, Dean’s life passion was lacrosse. He was inducted into into the Canadian Lacrosses Hall of Fame, the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame, the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame. He was honoured with many awards including the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, Mr Lacrosse Award, Lester B Pearson Award, life member of the OLA, CLA and his beloved Brampton Excelsiors for his more than 50 years of dedicated volunteerism to the sport of lacrosse. He served as the commissioner of the Ontario Jr league for 37 years. He truly was a legend in Lacrosse and friend to many. He was unique and will be missed by all. He’s probably already assumed the position of Commissioner of the Heaven Lacrosse League. Rest in Peace.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Dean's memory on December 2nd, 2023 at Spot One (289 Rutherford Road South in Brampton) from 12:00p.m. - 4:00p.m.
