David Woods

In Memory of :

David J. Woods

WOODS, David John – David passed away suddenly and peacefully at home on Sunday October 4th, 2020 at the age of 61.

He is survived by his loving parents Ernest and Margaret Woods, his sisters Diane Woods and Debbie Pearson, Debbie children’s Joel (Rachael Sutton) and Ayla Pearson, and his loving grand niece and nephew Hazel and Finn. He will be deeply missed by his good friend John Iacoviello (the brother he never had), Josie, and John’s sisters and spouses.

David was born in Toronto and moved to Brampton as a small child. He grew up there and attended two years in the Film Program at Humber College in Rexdale. David excelled in video technology and soon started his first company out of his parent’s garage. When the garage overflowed, he moved his business to Cinevillage in 1991 and later to his present location on Eastern Avenue in 1994.

David will be remembered by family and friends for his big heart, kind and gentle manner, unique style of humour and love of family. He was one of a kind and always ready to lend a hand to family and friends. He was always busy; constantly fixing, tinkering and building things to support his parents, family and friends.

Cinema was his passion. David was a pioneer in the film and tv industry with a vast knowledge and keen drive to problem solve, innovate, and adapt new technology. He was an inspiration and made a difference in the lives of many. He had a warm and charitable spirit and was known as a patient teacher and mentor. He was always ready to help others out; always showing up with his big smile and making work fun. David made an indelible mark in Toronto’s film industry and will be greatly missed by the entire production community.

All of us will miss him dearly. He will always be remembered for his great character, warm smile, and sense of humour, love of film and family and always being there for everyone around him.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family funeral and service will take place at 2 pm of Friday October 16, 2020 at St. James the Apostle Anglican Church in Brampton Ontario.

A Celebration of Life for his friends in the film community will take place in the New Year when it is safe for all of us to get together.
