David Sarginson passed away suddenly on May 19, 2022 at the age of 77.
David was born July 29, 1944 in Higher Openshaw, Manchester. Son of John Ryder and Lillian Sarginson. David attended Manchester Central Grammar School and Stockport Technical College.
A keen Manchester City fan, he passed his love of the game onto his children. In his younger days David could be found riding his 10 speed around the Peak District and North Wales, when he wasn't sitting by the canal fishing.
After obtaining his Higher National Certificate, David transferred from I.C.I. in the U.K., accepting a position as a plastics chemist at C.I.L. Canada and continued to pursue a very successful career as an Industrial Chemist, working in Sales, for Charles Tennant, Hercules and eventually retiring from Eastman Chemical.
He was an avid curler, enjoyed the odd game of golf and had an incredible passion for fly fishing. A longtime member of Habitat for Humanity, he was involved in the opening of the Brampton Restore, as well as working at various building sites. He also participated in the restoration and renovation of the historical Elliot House. In 2012 David received a long term Service Award for 10 years of service.
David loved working with wood and built many pieces of beautiful furniture, as well as assisting family members in their home renovations, not to mention the numerous bird boxes and planters he built for the Bruce Trail. David spent countless hours hiking and maintaining trails for the Bruce Trail Conservancy. In 2014, he was awarded the Barry Westhouse Award in recognition of long term commitment and dedication to Trail Development and Maintenance in The Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club. David volunteered for a number of years with the Peel Literacy Guild, served as a Member of the Board at Grace Court and was a member of Probus.
David was a loving grandfather or “You-You”, as he was called by his 9 grandchildren.
David is survived by his wife Mary; children Claire (Janet), Elizabeth (Reg), Jennifer (Marty) and Robert (Stacy); grandchildren Maya, Morgan, Mac, Abigayle, Sarah, Rebekah, Jonah, Cordelia and Matilda; sister Susan and brother-in-law Alan Webb, niece Catherine (Brian) and nephew Paul (Helen) as well as great nephews Freddie and Archie.
