Claudette Ann Chaves (née Sabga), age 81, loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt, passed to her Eternal Reward on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at her home in Brampton, Ontario, calmly in her sleep. She was born August 19, 1943, in Georgetown, British Guiana (now Guyana), the youngest daughter of the late Abraham Tommy Sabga (born in Syria) and the late Adelaide Sabga (née DeFreitas, born in Trinidad). Claudette was preceded in death in 2015 by her devoted husband of 56 years, Salvador “Sal” Figuera Chaves. She is survived by her two cherished children, her son Salvador “Sal Jr.” Joseph Chaves and her daughter Tara Alana (Daniel) Mowery, her beloved sisters and brother, Ellen (Larry) Gomes, Jean Klaffke, and Michael (Teresa) Sabga, along with many nieces and nephews, both biological and extended. Claudette immigrated to Canada with her husband and son in 1964. She had a long career in hospital administration at Doctor’s Hospital, Toronto, and then Etobicoke General Hospital in Etobicoke. An avid card and board game player, Claudette loved hosting family and friends on various social occasions, most notably Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving, and the Summer Garden Party. She touched the lives of so many with her wit, kindness, and fun-loving attitude and will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024, including a Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Brampton, Ontario, at 1 pm, with interment at Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Mississauga, Ontario, following the Mass and, following that a light reception at Williams Fresh Café, Brampton, Ontario. As an alternative to sending flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Cancer Society of Canada in memory of Claudette are appreciated.
