MCDERMOTT, CHRISTOPHER (Christy)
Peacefully on May 8, 2015 in Brampton after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s, and a very short one with cancer. Devoted husband to Pauline for 58 years. Loving father to Eugene (Miriam), Clare (Bryan RIP), Sean, Noreen (David) and Stephen (Julie). Caring Granda to Reilly, Aidan, Kate, Lauren, Ethan and Marie. Born January 5, 1930 in Dublin, Ireland, Christy was a proud Irishman, Dubliner, and Guinness Brewery employee. A gifted singer, he was a vital part of many church choirs, including the Pro-Cathedral in Dublin and St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Bramalea, Ontario. He and his family made Canada their home in 1974 and he came to love everything about his adopted country, especially hockey - he was an ever hopeful, loyal Leafs fan. He retired from McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in the 90s. Christy was a true Irish gentleman, always ready with a smile, a song, and a story. He was loved by everyone he met, and was most content when surrounded by the chatter and laughter of family and good friends. Singing, telling, watching, laughing, listening, smiling, puttering, helping, sharing, winking, caring. A dear husband, Dad, Granda, brother, uncle and friend who will be missed.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Village of Sandalwood Park Seniors Home, Brampton for their tender care, especially during his final days.
Friends will be received at The Ward Funeral Home, “Brampton Chapel” 52 Main Street South, Brampton. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 12 from 2- 4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Marguerite D’ Youville Church, 2490 Sandalwood Pkwy E., Brampton, on Wednesday, May 13 at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Assumption Cemetery following service.
