Catherine Rhodes

It is with great sadness the
family announces the death of
Catherine Ann Rhodes in her
85th year at Oakville Trafalgar
Memorial Hospital on Saturday,
October 11, 2014. Predeceased
by her beloved husband Gordon
(2001) and survived by her
children Gerrard, Mary and Anne
and by her dear brother Alex
Givens and numerous nieces and
nephews. Catherine was born
and raised in Toronto and
attended school at Loretto
Abbey and later at the University
of Toronto where she graduated
with a Bachelor of Arts degree
She met Gordon not long after
her father died, and was
attracted by Gordon's quiet
strength and assurance that he
was there to stay. They married
in 1956 and settled in Toronto
with their three children. Their
home became a haven for strays
both human and feline. A
woman of great faith, Catherine
became a tireless crusader for
Autism and developmental delay
support services and a dedicated
advocate and participant in
volunteer service to her
community. We will miss her
wonderful grace and wit. Funeral
services will be held on
Saturday, October 18th, 2014 at
10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Roman
Catholic Church, 47 Reynolds
Street in Oakville, Ontario, with
reception to follow at Ward
Funeral Homes, 109 Reynolds
Street. In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made to
Central West Specialized
Developmental Services in
Oakville, in memory of Catherine
Rhodes.
