Catherine Sarah Donaldson McArdle nee Mundy
May 7, 1927 – October 18, 2019
Died peacefully at Humber River Hospital in the early dawn of October 18, 2019. Predeceased by her husbands, Alfred Donaldson (1991) and Murray McArdle (2008). Survived by her daughter Maureen (Angel Perez), her daughter in law Jocelinda Tan (the late David Donaldson, 2013), her stepdaughter Ellen (Kevin DesRues), her beloved grandchildren Daniel, Christopher & Matthew Perez, and Oliver & Emma DesRues. Daughter of Edith (Quigley) and Joseph Mundy of Sarnia, and the last of their nine children: Hugh, Francis, Carl and John, Merrian Bennett, Eileen Marriott, Ellen Kerrigan, and Sister Celestine. She recently returned to Ontario after a well lived life in Montreal. A long-time teacher at Tara Hall and McLaren, she supported many children in kindergarten on their educational path. She volunteered for many years at the Jewish Hospital of Hope in east end Montreal and later at Cote des Neiges. She was a good person in the most fundamental sense; warm and welcoming to all in her life, supportive to all of us, lived life with optimism, had a great laugh, and liked nothing better than a beautifully plated meal or sweet treat. She loved her near-weekly trips to Vermont for many years and searching for treasures. She moved to Montreal around 1948 for an X-ray technician’s job at the Montreal Homeopathic Hospital (later Queen Elizabeth Hospital), a bold move for a young woman at that time. She loved Montreal and was an excellent tour guide to the churches of Montreal to many visitors over the years and during Expo 67. She was a long-time parishioner at St. Aloysius and later St. Malachy. She moved to Toronto in August to be closer to family but fell ill shortly after arriving. She spent her last weeks surrounded by love and family, and supported by the tireless efforts of her daughter, Maureen.
