It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Carroll Anne Hern wishes to announce her peaceful passing at the family’s home in Oakville on Friday, June 27, 2014. She leaves her heartbroken husband of thirty one years, Doug Hern, and her deeply loved children, Jacquelyn and Jordan. She also leaves her brother, Stephen Lawn, and her sister, Anne Marie Kerman, as well as their families. She will be greatly missed by her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. Carroll was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Doreen Lawn, and by her sister, Judith Lawn.
Carroll was beautiful, dignified and elegant in her dress and manner. She was a remarkably gifted person and achieved many things in her short life. Carroll was a devoted, loving wife and mother. She was a highly ethical and honourable woman. She was a talented human resources professional. Carroll had an infectious laugh, a great sense of humour, and her love for a good time will always be celebrated. She was a pillar of strength, a confidante and a dear friend. Carroll will be remembered by her family and friends as an inspiring, caring and giving person who epitomized courtesy, grace and class. She touched many people in her life and will live in the hearts of all who knew her.
Carroll and her family are deeply appreciative of the care she received while under treatment at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. She was particularly appreciative of the efforts of Dr. John Kuruvilla and his respective colleagues. The family would also like to thank Dr. Jean Marmoreo for her kindness and care, and Dr. Helen Pyle, the nurses and caregivers, who ensured Carroll was able to spend her final weeks in the home she loved in the warm embrace of her family and friends. Carroll and Jacquelyn would also like to extend a special thank you to Bill Rowley, their adored hair stylist. He made Carroll look good and feel better, lifting her spirits so she could face her illness with greater confidence.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carroll made to Wellspring Birmingham Gilgan House (Halton-Peel), a cancer support organization Carroll found comfort in, would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
