Carole Ann Beier

It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Carole Ann Beier (née Hurst), aged 82, on September 2nd, 2024, with her family at her side. A long-time resident of Brampton, Ontario, Carole lived a life filled with love, laughter, and commitment to her family, friends, and community.

Born in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec on August 21st, 1942, Carole grew up in a succession of Northern Ontario towns as her father, a railroad employee, moved from one professional posting to the next. She was very close to her parents, J. Clayton Hurst and Sophia (Sue) Hurst and her younger sister, Myra Hurst. Among other places, the family lived in Fraserdale and Timmins, eventually settling in North Bay where Carole attended high school. Always an exceptional student, she was twice advanced by an extra grade, graduating high school at the age of 16 and, after successfully completing Teachers’ College, she became a school teacher at age 18. She taught in Etobicoke prior to moving to a new school in Brampton in 1962. Carole excelled in teaching, making lasting impressions in the lives of her students, some of whom from as far back as the early 1960s remained in contact with her through the rest of her life.

Carole and her husband, Reinhard (Ron) Beier, were married in 1963 and, that same year, moved into the new house they had ordered in one of the early phases of the Peel Village neighbourhood in Brampton. They had two sons and, over the years, the house in Peel Village was the site of family celebrations and many social gatherings with wonderful friends. Carole was fortunate to travel widely with family and friends and was especially appreciative of every opportunity to experience local cultural traditions in the places she visited.

Carole was blessed with a wide circle of friends who will miss her greatly. She loved to play bridge, had a deep appreciation for live theatre, and always enjoyed good conversation over lunch or dinner at a restaurant or on a patio. It was the social aspect of all these things, the time spent enjoying them with friends and family, that made them all most meaningful to her.

A lover of music, Carole taught piano for many years to children of friends and neighbours. Beginning each day with crosswords and other puzzles, she loved any kind of mental challenge. She was an avid reader with eclectic interests and always looked forward to the meetings of her book club. Carole sustained family traditions of all sorts, from favourite recipes to special observances. Known for her sharp wit and strong, clear memory, she was the repository of family history and passed this along to her sons and granddaughter along with many humorous stories and family jokes handed down to her from earlier generations.

Carole was predeceased by both her parents and her husband of 55 years. She is survived by her sister Myra Hurst, sons Marshall Beier and Jeff Beier, and granddaughter Kaelyn Beier. Her family was the most important part of her life and she cherished every moment spent with them. All she supportively instilled, shared, and encouraged lives on in each of them.

A celebration of her life will be held at a time and place to be determined in the Spring of 2025, where family and friends will be invited to share their memories and pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the Brampton Civic Hospital or the Trillium Mississauga Hospital, both of which provided her with outstanding care in the last months of her life. Though she is no longer with us, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
